So the adventure continues in Part 2 of Aoleon The Martian Girl, a five-part sci-fi adventure novel for kids and adults alike. My son, Alessio and I loved Aoleon The Martian Girl: First Contact (Part #1) where we were introduced to a fun-loving teen Martian girl named Aoleon who came to visit Earth and ended up taking Gilbert, the Nebraskan farm boy back to Mars with her.

In Part 2, Aoleon introduces Gilbert to life on Mars. He meets her family, gets to see her home, and attends school with her. And he gets to meet Bizwat the pizza delivery guy who is so much more than what he seems. Pizza on Mars? Yes! And it's made with galactic milk. But there's something sinister brewing. It started when Pax, a character briefly introduced at the end of Part 1, and who is part of the resistance, tells Aoleon she has a part to play. We don't know yet what that's going to be, but we discover Aoleon's skills as a quick-witted gal, especially during the psi-ball match.

I read Part 2 with Alessio as there are parts of the novel that were scientifically complex and difficult to understand. My son wanted to skip through all the Mars history lesson and move on to the action. But I told him the history to a story is important as it will help to understand the plot. As with the first part, the illustrations are brilliant and we wished there were more. LeVasseur has an amazing imagination and he's created a complex and interesting world on Mars. My son thinks this book would make an awesome movie, and he is right.

Gilbert is still Alessio's favorite character and he and Aoleon make a great friend duo. We can't wait to continue the adventure in Part 3 and see how the plot continues to unfold.
